Four more talented musicians join our young performers concert series:
Ben Finlay – cello
Ben began learning the cello at the age of seven. He has played in several orchestras including the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain and the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra. His interest in music is not restricted to classical as he plays a lot of jazz on piano and bass guitar, acting as conductor of his school Big Band from 2015-17. He is currently in his first year studying cello with Lionel Handy at the Royal Academy of Music.
Leo Stemp – trumpet and cornet
Leo is 10 years old and lives in Bacup. He began learning the cornet at the age of five with the training band of the 2nd Rossendale Scout Band and now plays Principal Solo Cornet in the junior band. He has also been a member of the senior band for two years and has featured live on Radio Lancashire with them playing a solo. Leo also enjoys orchestral playing on his trumpet. He has been a member of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain for two years.
Matt Johnson – piano
Matt is currently studying piano at diploma level at Chethams in Manchester. Matt won his age group six years running at the Wharfedale Festival.
Han Zhao – piano and organ
Han was formerly a pupil at Bradford Grammar School and is now a music scholar at Eton College. He started learning the piano at the age of four with Dame Fanny Waterman. With the help of her wonderful tuition he successfully auditioned for a Music Scholarship at Eton College three years ago. Han is currently learning piano, organ and viola.
